Video from Cape Town, South Africa in 2006, down near Wallacedean Housing Estate. Went down to get some smoke and came accross this huge drag and drifting spot. Were over like 600 people all hundled in a circle, music bumping from all the hundreds of cars gathered around. Some super suped up, others literally put together with tape and wire. The atmosphere was electric, with people drinking, shouting, laughing, chatting. When i finally managed to push my way to the front of the circle, i came face to face with four screeching tires, wielding their way towards me. Literally had to jump out the way to avoid being mashed up!
Sadly the police shuit down the entire area only months after I was there, due to a number of spectator deaths, literally getting taken out by the cars, and also due to rising violence in the area. Such a shame as it was a one of a kind. The smell, the rumbling basslines, the chats and shouts of people just trying to escape their mudane lives.
